Blue Mountains Crossing

February 28, 2013

Hi Everyone, forwarding this from BMHEN.

To celebrate the Commemorative Crossing of the Blue Mountains we at BMHEN have a small stash of Commemorative Holey Dollar Coins to pass on to all of our homeschooled children.
Commissioned by the Businesses Supporting Bicentenary these coins are
reproductions of coins used as Australia’s first official currency and will be available for $5 per set.

These coins are beautifully packaged and available through BMHEN for each child in your family as a lasting memento of this historically significant occasion!

The early colony struggled without a formal currency, hence the
domination of rum as a commodity. To resolve this Governor Macquarie
acquired a quantity of Spanish silver coins. The centre of each was
punched out and named “the dump”.
The new coin became known as the “Holey Dollar”, our first official
currency.

BMHEN will be working on a first in first served basis with one coin per
child and all coins will need to be allocated through contacting
events@bmhen.org or nikkileemartin@yahoo.com.au
Please email to leave your child’s name and contact details. Coins will be available mid April.

To view the coins themselves or find out more about the Crossing check out www.bluemountainscrossins.com.au

These commemorative coins are very limited so hurry and book yours now!
