Literacy through Drama

October 1, 2013

We still have a few spots left for Literacy through Drama with the fantabulous Georgia Adamson.

Literacy through Drama for 7-11 yrs

with Georgia Adamson

Australian and international research has shown that the use of drama with quality literature is a highly effective way to improve childrens’ critical literacy. Georgia has worked in this area for 5 years through her ongoing association with the School Drama program, run by Sydney Theatre Company in partnership with the University of Sydney.

Using Shaun Tan’s mysterious and evocative text, The Lost Thing, this 7-week workshop series will focus on developing students’ descriptive language. Follow-up activities are provided each week that allow children to process the imaginative, physical and empathic experiences they have in class into written work.

Running for 7 weeks, the workshops will commence on Tuesday 5th November and conclude on Tuesday 17th December, and will run from 11:15am – 12:15pm at the Mid Mountains Community Centre in Lawson.

While it is not a problem if children have read The Lost Thing previously, it is recommended that you don’t re-read this book to them or view the short film before the workshops.

Cost: $88 for the 7 week series for HEA members, $95 for non members.  Please email Julie to book: sparksandflames@soundview.com.au Payments will be due by the 23rd of October.

All Living Learning events are Home Education Association Inc. events.
