Term 3 Program 2017

June 27, 2017

Welcome to Living Learning’s Term 3 Program!

All workshops will be held at Mid Mountains Neighbourhood Centre (MMNC) on Tuesdays from 10:30-11:30am. MMNC is a nut free venue.  All homeschooling families are welcome to meet for lunch afterwards, whether or not you are attending the workshops.  Living Learning activities are Home Education Association Inc. (HEA) Events.

Living Learning programs are pitched at a 5yrs and up age group as a loose guideline.

Please note it is an insurance requirement from HEA that parents are at the venue or provide written notice of their absence to the event organiser and have a designated “supervising carer” present for their children. When you are the “supervising carer” for another parent, please ensure you include the names of the children who are in your care when you sign the HEA sign on sheet.

At the end of the program, you will find a link to the booking sheet for Term 3 2017

Our workshops most often book out, so book in as soon as you can!

1st August– Build-a-mind

Screen Shot 2017-06-27 at 1.00.02 PM

Build-A-Mind focuses on exposing children (and adults) to new technology, new tools and different methods of construction, alongside familiar toys such as Lego.  Children are gently encouraged to express their creativity and expand their horizons at a pace that suits them individually.    Our team of Edutainers facilitate explorative learning and guide the children to find their own conclusions on how to progress with whatever project they may be working on.

Our mantra begins “We are makers, we are creators, we are innovators …..”  and we strive to instil this belief in everyone we work with.

Cost: $17 HEA members/$20 non-members

8th,15th August – Ancient Japan with Madison Martin

Screen Shot 2017-06-27 at 1.00.15 PM

My name is Madison Martin and I’m an Art and Japanese teacher and former Homeschooler. Come along with me for a journey into the world of Japanese history where we will learn about Samurai, traditions, customs and what life was like throughout the eras of Japanese history.

This class is for ages seven and up, although to get the most out of this class students should be able to listen and engage with the subject matter and classroom discussions as well as have some basic literacy skills for paper handouts and note taking if they choose to. Classes run for two weeks and are one hour sessions.

I am a nineteen year old artist and tutor, I have been studying Japanese for seven years now and enjoy teaching Homeschooled children both Japanese and Art. I was Homeschooled from Kindergarten to Year 10 so I feel uniquely qualified to both guide and understand the journey of a Homeschooled child.

I am now studying a Bachelor of Fine Art and Visual Culture with Curtin University and am working toward a Master of Secondary Education. My artwork is featured in Gallery ONE88, the Hub and Mountain High Pies and I can be found on Facebook and Instagram @kewpidollart.

I hope to see you at my classes and can’t wait to go on this journey with you.

What to bring: note taking supplies as well as anything your child particularly likes to draw with

Cost: $22 for HEA members/$24 for non-members for the full two weeks.

  • Cooperate with team members to problem solve
  • Experiment with a variety of materials to build structures
  • Share and discuss their process and designs

5th, 12th, 19th September- German Language and Culture with Jane

Screen Shot 2017-06-27 at 1.00.55 PM

Did you know that English and German are both West Germanic languages? They have a fair share of common words, but beware of false friends! This three week German language and culture series will introduce the common historical roots of German and English. It will teach you how to introduce yourself in German and count high enough to tell people how old you are. You will learn how to describe yourself and others; and sing along to the German alphabet. Knowing the German letter sounds will enable you to read unknown words from a dictionary! We will also cover some Geography and History of Germany; and look at German culture, traditions and customs. Look forward to a fun mix of role plays, games and songs.

Children need to be able to read to benefit from the workshop.

Cost- $28 for HEA members/$30 for non-members

    Hi LL’ers

I was just going over the content for tomorrow – I completely missed the note that kids need to be able to read to benefit from the German workshops. My girls are emerging readers and it would probably be a bit too much for them.

Could you please let Jane know that they won’t be attending?

And, I am pretty sure that refunds aren’t available. Is that right? Its a big chunk of money :/
