Term 2 Program 2018

April 11, 2018

Welcome to Living Learning’s Term 2 Program!

All workshops will be held at Mid Mountains Neighbourhood Centre (MMNC) on Tuesdays from 10:30-11:30am. MMNC is a nut free venue.  All homeschooling families are welcome to meet for lunch afterwards, whether or not you are attending the workshops.  Living Learning activities are Home Education Association Inc. (HEA) Events.

Living Learning programs are pitched at 5yrs and up age group as a loose guideline. This term we also have a program on offer for children working at High School level. Keep reading and scroll down to find details.

Please note it is an insurance requirement from HEA that parents are at the venue or provide written notice of their absence to the event organiser and have a designated “supervising carer” present for their children. When you are the “supervising carer” for another parent, please ensure you include the names of the children who are in your care when you sign the HEA sign on sheet.

At the end of the program, you will find a link to the booking sheet for Term 2 2018

Our workshops most often book out, so book in as soon as you can!

1st May – I Scream, You Scream, We Scream for Ice Cream.

Hi all Parents & Carers,

My name is Peter Daley and I’m Koby’s Dad. We both attend Living Learning. Two interesting facts about myself are: once I was a Chef (10 years) as well as, I am a big “Ice Cream Lover”😋. So that brings me to invite our little angels to come along to Living Learning on the 1st May, to have a try at making our own batches of Ice Cream.

We will cover some Ice Cream facts & the ingredients that make it. Plus turn it into a science lesson to look at why/how it all works.  Main ingredients consist of Milk, Sugar, Egg yolks, Vanilla essence & some Flavouring/toppings.  So if there are any children that would require alternative ingredients from the above list, please let myself or Meredith know so I can shop right for all attending.

Hope to see lots of Ice Cream Lovers there on the day.

Best Wishes, Peter.

Cost:$11 for HEA members/$13 for non-members

8th, 15thMay- Eco printing on paper

Screen Shot 2018-04-11 at 5.17.09 PM

Join us in exploring the art and science of eco-printing on paper. In the first session, we will discuss how natural dyes work, then each child will set up their own eco-print experiment with different paper and leaf variables.

In the second session, we will examine our cooked bundles to see what the natural dyes have done. We will compare the different variables and discuss which paper or leaves worked best. Each child will leave with the knowledge and experience to continue their own eco-printing explorations at home.

Louise is a local eco-print artist who runs a small business called Gumnut Magic. She sells eco-printed clothing and has written ebooks about eco-printing on cotton and paper. She loves introducing people to this magical process. See more of her work at http://www.gumnutmagic.com

Creative expression.

This ten week workshop series will bring the written word to life. It will explore diverse ways that creative expression of the word can be useful in everyday situations. It will help us develop skills to communicate well with the world around us and to enact words thoughtfully. It is a practical workshop series that will look at – storytelling, rhetoric, speech-writing, poetry, documentary, communication skills, debating, crucial conversations, interviewing and the construction of an argumentative essay. Workshops will be structured around playful forays into the realms of logic and fancy, beauty, comedy and the absurd. By focusing on our personal strengths and the celebration of our unique selves, this workshop series will help us to nurture the ongoing power of the creative expression of our words. This is an inclusive high school class, open to all levels of ability and confidence.

Gareth has a diverse interest in things such as narrative therapy, popular culture, post-colonial literary theory, poetry, song writing and essay. He has been writing poetry for about twenty years and has been shortlisted for national poetry prizes. He has completed undergraduate university studies in Social Ecology, Creative Writing and Visual Arts and holds a masters degree in Social Work. He currently works within the field of disability and mental health where he utilises play, visual arts and creative writing as a therapeutic modality. He has been involved in the home-education community with his family of four children for the past ten years.

    Hi there,
I’m not sure if I booked correctly for the Ecoprint workshops as it was the first time I had done so with Living Learning, and have not yet received confirmation or payment information.
I booked Simona and Lucas for both sessions last week, and it confirmed the booking went through as there were places still available.
Your help would be much appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Monica.
